The Rose Chain

THE ROSE CHAIN by Ivy Trott is the engaging story
of a young girl through the years of World War Two and beyond.  At thirteen she is orphaned. Her parents are
lost at sea when the ship carrying them from Africa to England is
torpedoed.  Rose is rescued and settles
in a Devon village where she finds friends and loses them, meets some memorable characters, decides on her career and has an
impact on village history.

 This is a Devon country story of friendships, a
girl reaching womanhood and a village adapting to war and eventual peace with
pathos and humour from 1940 until shortly after the Festival of Britain in the 1950’s.

 The story holds up an intriguing mirror to the
period and place whilst the characterisations are delightful personality
sketches that aptly reflect the society in which they so realistically play out
the story.
